Gnome 3.0(ThreePointZero) scheduled to be released in April 2011

Yeah, yet another great news(perhaps old one). If you could see the Gnome Release Schedule, there is an eye catching schedule to be released after Gnome 2.91

I thought most people are currently waiting for the new breakthrough from Gnome, which is Gnome 3.0. I’m personally pretty excited when I saw that Gnome 3.0 is listed and scheduled to be released on April 2011. I hope some of my expectations for Gnome 3.0 in year 2008 can be implemented into this upcoming new generation of Windows Manager.

Ubuntu 10.10 is Getting Near By!

Ubuntu 10.10 will be released soon, since the release candidate has been released as well, lets we take a look of the newest version of Ubuntu 10.10.

New features in Maverick by default:

1. Ubuntu font family is pre-installed in Ubuntu 10.10
2. Updated Gnome Kernel to 2.32 version
3. Evolution was updated to the 2.30 version, which operates much faster compared to the version in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
4. Shotwell has replaced F-Spot as the default photo manager.
5. Gwibber has been updated to support the recent change in Twitter’s authentication system, as well as changing the back end storage to improve performance.
6. The Sound Indicator has been enhanced to include music player controls.
7. The Ubuntu Software Center has an updated look and feel, including the new “Featured” and “What’s New” views for showcasing applications, an improved package description view, and a “For Purchase” software category has been added. You can also now easily access your package installation history too.
8. Ubuntu One: Polished desktop integration with new sign up and sign in process. Tighter integration with Ubuntu SSO. Nautilus enhancements for managing folder sync preferences. Faster file sync speed. Share links to music within the Ubuntu One Music Store.
9. The new Unity interface is now the default in Ubuntu Netbook Edition.

Ubuntu Official Font Family (HOT)

Finally after months of waiting, the Ubuntu development team has finally released the Ubuntu official open font, or you name it Ubuntu Font Family.

For those who have installed Ubuntu maverick, be happy because one of its feature is to install this font automatically into your Ubuntu system. But for the previous Ubuntu version users, you have to Download this Ubuntu font family, because there are still no official PPA.

For the installation process, choose the package with .tar.gz extension than extract and double click on the font that you want to install.. Because the extension is universal(.tff), this font also can be installed in both windows or Mac OSX for design & other purposes.

This Ubuntu font family is also will be available for web developer as a webfont through font.ubuntu.com and also http://code.google.com/webfonts.

Linux Web Hosting In-Depth

Linux is one of the most popular platforms in cheap web hosting. It is a complete open source hosting package, designed to be efficient and cost effective. This makes it the prime choice for web creators and many clients worldwide. Promoting stability of the server and reliability of websites, Linux is also chosen by experts, because of its server strength and competence, relative to its competitors. But despite widespread use of Linux as a web server and in the web hosting industry, many are still somewhat in the dark as to what exactly makes up Linux web hosting. So let’s take an in-depth look at what Linux hosting really is.

The OS

A Linux server package is mostly included as part of a release package. These release packages, also known as distributions, are a group of software and applications. Examples of these are spreadsheets, media players, word processor, document readers, processors, and database programs. Linux distributes a regular set of the Linux Kernel, including a set of GNU tools, documentation software, and other applications. Popular distributions include CentOs, Fedora, Gentoo, Linux Mint, Oracle Enterprise, Ubuntu and Debian.

The Server

One of the most reliable open source servers on the web, Apache, is widely used with Linux. Apache security, deployed as a basic HTTP server, is used by over a hundred million websites worldwide. Being an open source solution, Apache can be modified and deployed in a dynamic fashion. Apache also being easy to use, can be accessed through straightforward, web downloads.

Databases

MySQL is another open source database management program, which is a popular part of the LAMP stack server. MySQL is a great way to enhance one’s server back-end capabilities, through the addition of structured data storage, querying, and data matching. Because MySQL is an open source solution, it can be added to even the cheapest Linux hosting solution, without an adverse cost impact. Popular forks of this RDBMS include Drizzle, Percona Server and mariaDB.

Server-Side Scripting

Besides MySQL and Apache, the Linux web server instance comprises of scripting languages, such as PHP, Perl, and Python. PHP is a scripting language, used for web design and other content and coding purposes. It is an adaptable code, which can easily be modified, to achieve an effect for a page or web design.

Perl, on the other hand, is a great language for building dynamic websites. Perl consists of readable scripting, composed of various variables and identifiers, making programming simpler. Also, Perl will generate error code messages, giving the programmer a traceable warning scheme whenever a mistake has occurred.

Python in comparison is an extensive programming language, with strict margins and formatting. However, this makes the coding easily readable to other programmers unlike PHP. Python is most commonly used in a team development environment.

All in all, these scripts are used by Apache servers and MySQL database management systems, in forming a LAMP hosting structure otherwise referred to as Linux web hosting.

Call it PlayBook… Wonder why they named it like that.. Perhaps it’s as easy as a child toy ==” . I think I’m gonna buy this soon enough when it reach Australia

AllForLinux.com, late updates but still hot in Linux World!

hey guys, just a quick update since I’m currently quite a bit busy with my university life. But still I can promise to keep updating on this busy site.. So here are some news that perhaps are still hot to be read . Enjoy the updates.

Ubuntu 10.10

Ubuntu 10.10 beta has been released, check out the news at:

I’m not really expecting much changes with this version of Ubuntu since it might only upgrading or updating the current/previous software inside it. But yeah, the indicator looks quite fine to me. Ubuntu 10.10 will be released on october 2010.

Update for Desktop edition:

Firefox 4 beta 7?

Yes! it out and fresh! Just to the point, here are the quick commands to install FF 4 beta 7. Copy and paste it respectively into the terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox-4.0

After the installation you will be able to access Firefox 4 beta 7 in menu: Applications – Internet – Minefield 4.0 Web Browser.
